Statement of assurance from Colombo

Dear all,

In the wake of the tragic assassination of our Minister of Foreign Affairs, many overseas friends have expressed concerns about my own safety.

I appreciate your concern, and would like to reassure you that everything remains calm and life goes on as usual. Of course, we are still recovering from the shock and grief of suddenly losing one of the most remarkable Sri Lankans of our times.

I have been telling friends for a long time that Colombo is as safe as London or New York. In the past five years, the similarities have only become more striking, much to the consternation of insurance brokers…

Now completely wheel-chaired by Post Polio, I have no plans of leaving Sri Lanka again. This is where I will spend the rest of my life and where I will continue to entertain friends and other visitors from far corners of the planet.
