Founders Conference

The new Third Millennium global virtual research institute, dedicated to the ideas and vision of Sir Arthur C. Clarke, was launched on February 5, 2000 with an all day Founders' Conference. This immediately followed the Satellite 2000 Conference, where Prof. Joe Pelton delivered the Arthur C. Clarke lecture. The Founders' Conference was held at INTELSAT headquarters in Washington, D.C., with nearly 100 persons attending. The agenda was full, and we received the thoughts and expressions of well-wishers, contributed electronically, from around the world--including comments from Sir Arthur himself on tape from his home in Sri Lanka.

You can read the text of Sir Arthur's remarks to the conference here .

Walter Cronkite provided additional video greetings.

Written greetings were presented from: The Clarke Foundation of the U.K., Communications Research Centre of Canada, Communications Research Lab of Japan, Canadian Space Agency, George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, Japan-US Telecommunications Research Institute, Japan U.S. Science, Technology and Space Applications Program, Sidney Topol, and the University of Surrey.
